How to Measure Your Space to Maximize Every Square Inch
Before You Start
Grab a tape measure, a notepad, and a pen. You'll want to measure in inches for the most accurate results.
Step 1: Wall Width
Measure the total width of the wall where you want your closet system installed. Measure at three points:
- At the floor
- At waist height
- Near the ceiling
Use the smallest measurement. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, and we'll build to the tightest dimension so your unit fits flush.
Step 2: Wall Height
Measure from floor to ceiling. Our standard units are 84" tall, which maximizes vertical storage while leaving room for crown molding or ceiling irregularities.
Step 3: Depth
Measure how deep the closet space is from the back wall to the door frame. Standard closet depth is 24", but we can build to any dimension.
Step 4: Identify Obstacles
Note the location of:
- Light switches and electrical outlets
- Baseboard heaters or vents
- Door swing clearance
- Any existing fixtures you want to keep
Step 5: Think About What You Store
Before we design your layout, consider:
- How many hanging garments? (This determines how many linear feet of rod space you need)
- How many pairs of shoes? (Our 9" spacing fits most shoes perfectly)
- Do you need drawers? (Great for folded items, accessories, and undergarments)
Pro Tip
Rough measurements are fine for a quote. We'll do a precise measurement during the consultation visit to make sure everything is perfect before we start building.
